Has a cure for the hiccups finally been discovered?

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Just as there is no cure for the common cold there has not been a treatment for the hiccups. But an inventor in Sacramento, California, says he has a way to stop the hiccups cold.

Chuck Ray came up with a device he calls the Hiccup Stick while suffering from a bout of hiccups. After several working models, months of trial and error and with the help of family and friends he has parlayed his efforts into a new company that now offers consumers the first ever product to stop their hiccups.

Ray's company, Hicural began selling the patent-pending Hiccup Stick about a year ago.

Although nothing can prevent hiccups, Ray says the Hiccup Stick can stop them instantly whenever they occur no matter the cause. The person using it places the flexible and reusable plastic stick-like device with an open gate in their mouth while drinking a few sips of water from a glass. Within a few seconds, according to Ray, the hiccups are gone.

However, it's worthwhile noting that at this point, the product has not been proven in clinical tests. Ray says that's the next step.

As reporters are so fond of saying in their closes, "Only time will tell."
