Ouachita Parish Bus Barn Damage

Posted: Updated:

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Clean up continues at the Ouachita Parish Bus Barn on Thomas Road after someone caused thousand of dollars worth of damage.

Ouachita Parish School Superintendent, Bob Webber, says "I suspect this guy is not a real smart guy."

Crews spent the day repairing one of the new school buses that had glass in the door and driver window busted. There were other cars with windows busted out and even the dash board glass.

Webber says, "two or three guys had to work much of the day yesterday just trying to fix the vehicles back."

Some of the damage is beyond repair, like a temporary building, where the majority is burned.

Webber says, "I hope if he's out there out and listening you only burned the one that was not really good for us, and not really able to use."

Webber says this isn't the first time something like this has happened to one of their buses.

He says, "after the buses were burned a couple of years ago, we put cameras in and we put some fences in to try and keep folks out."

Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, Major Jason Pleasant, says they believe the suspect got inside through an unlocked gate.

He says, "we do have some leads we're following up on, and confirming some information. We have been able to look at some of the surveillance video that's available to us. All of those things coupled together, hopefully we'll be able to bring this to resolution pretty quick."

Webber says, "the kind of person that would do this probably does not even pay taxes and its tax payers money locally here that pays for those vehicle and those buses and so forth."

Webber says acts like this one will not keep the busses from rolling.

Police say they're concerned because the act of vandalism was not a result of the person trying to steal anything.

Officials say nothing appears to be missing, just damaged.
