MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Monroe Police Department is investigating a body found off of highway 80.
The call came in around 8 Monday morning, and police are treating this as a suspected homicide.
Monroe Police Sergeant Mark Johnson says, "Monroe Police Officers got there and found a black male, later identified as Clinton Pratt, age 28."
Johnson says where Pratt's body was found is not a frequently traveled road.
He says, "it's part of the security zone that butts up directly to the Monroe Regional Airport, it's kind of a one way in one way out location its doesn't have a lot of through traffic."
Johnson says the early investigation shows Pratt died of a gun shot wound.
He says, "we don't know if this occurred at this location or not."
Pratt lived at the Lakeshore Villa Apartment, located 2 and a half miles from where his body was found.
Police say this is the last known address of Pratt; and while the neighbors we spoke with say they don't know Pratt personally, hearing the news makes them scared.
Neighbor Chasity Marzell says, "it shocked me because like I said I'm not familiar with the area, but I hadn't heard about anything like that going on out here."
Marzell lives in the same apartment complex as Pratt.
She says whether the homicide happened here or not, it makes her question the safety of where she lives.
Marzell says, "to know something like this happened so close it kind of makes you want to check your surroundings, and I don't feel safe anymore so my next thing would be to find somewhere else to go."
Marzell says she will be keeping a closer eye for anyone who looks suspicious in the area.
The body has been sent to Little Rock for an autopsy.
Johnson says they are waiting for the autopsy to come back to determine the actually cause of death.
