MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Inspiration for the hit Disney movie "Remember the Titans" visits Louisiana Delta Community College.

Louisiana Delta Community College had a full house at this year's Black History Program. Keynote speaker, Herman Boone, is said to have drawn in that crowd.

"We came because we watched the movie Remember the Titans, and it tied right in to everything we are learning about," said a Grace Episcopal student.

The true story of "Remember the Titans" is Herman Boone's story and it's now part of Grace Episcopal's eighth grade history lesson. The class came to the program to hear from the man himself.

Boone spoke about the integrated Virginia football team he coached at T. C. Williams, and key scenes of "Remember the Titans" with Denzel Washington playing Boone were showed to reinforce the difficulties Boone faced.

"When adversary becomes a part of your life, just kick it right in the rear-end and keep moving," says Boone.

Boone says just as he changed unruly boys into responsible young men in 1971, we must hold our young generations accountable. Boone left those in attendance with one challenge.

"Demand that they do certain things that will make them a better person in the community," says Boone, "but many of our people have lost that word and the meaning of that word, expectation."

Coach Boone says getting back to having expectations for young people, is crucial, because they are the future of our country, and though he says we have come along way since 1971, we are a country that still has some growing to do.
