CHOUDRANT, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Jon W. McCann, 30, of 130 Carla Rd., Choudrant, has been arrested at his residence with the help of the Lincoln Parish deputies.

According to police, McCann knew his victims. He attended church with one family and knew the other victim from work.

McCann remains in the Union Parish Detention Center after being booked on two counts of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling. His Union Parish bonds total $25,500. McCann also is charged in Ouachita Parish on two felony theft warrants with total bonds set at $16,000, according to Union Parish Sheriff Bob Buckley.

The burglaries and thefts involved jewelry that was sold at The Aurum Place on Louisville Avenue in Monroe. In the two Union Parish burglaries, Buckley said his detectives were able to recover nearly $12,000 worth of jewelry. He said some $13,000 worth of jewelry was taken in the two burglaries.

Detectives reported that the first burglary occurred at a Rocky Branch resident and the victim worked with the suspect. "The victim told our detectives that (McCann) was a really nice guy," Buckley said.

The second burglary occurred in the Downsville area and occurred while the family was at church. Detectives said the suspect apparently broke into the home when the family left for Sunday school and then went home, picked up a child and went to church services.

Union Parish detectives also reported that OPSO also recovered jewelry sold at the same business on Louisville Avenue
