Police busy in Monroe during Mardi Gras weekend

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - The 2013 Mardi Gras Parade had the following incidents occur within the city limits of Monroe and were handled by the Monroe Police Department:

  • Five reported fights/disturbances along the parade route were dispersed by Monroe Officers. One of these occurred at the business located at 2701 Lamy Lane and resulted in the arrest of 1 juvenile for disturbing the peace/fighting.
  • 8 lost children were reported to the Monroe Police Department and were eventually returned to their parents.
  • 1 call for medical service (unconscious male) was received and handled by the Monroe Fire Department and AMR and assisted by the Monroe Police Department.
  • 2 battery complaints was made by a citizen, this investigation is ongoing.
  • 1 vehicle fire was reported at Washington and Louisville and handled by Monroe Fire Department.
  • 1 Vehicle accident with no injuries was reported along the parade route. 5 vehicle accidents (no injuries) occurred after the parade along exit routes while leaving the parade. All were handled by the Monroe Police Department.

Overall, the 2013 Mardi Gras parade was a successful event with minor incidents only reported to the Monroe Police Department. La State Police, La Alcohol-Tobacco Control officers, Ouachita Sheriff's Department, Winnsboro Police Department, and La Levee Police all assisted the Monroe Police Department and helped to insure a safe and enjoyable celebration for all attendees. The Monroe Police Department wishes to extend its thanks to these agencies.
