MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Dr. Peggy Bowers, assistant professor of communication at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has been chosen to represent ULM at International Week 2013, hosted by French university Pôle Universitaire Léonard De Vinci (PULV). Her proposal, "‘The More Things Change…': Notes on Social Media, and the Ethics of Public and Private" was selected for a second consecutive year.
Only one proposal is selected from each university in the University of Louisiana System. Scholars from all over the United States, Canada, and various European nations all attend PULV International Week, providing Bowers the opportunity to represent ULM to a global audience.
Bowers's proposal focuses on "the ethical implications of social media on all levels of society." The title comes from the idiom, "The more things change, the more they stay the same," which is found in both English and French. Her presentation at International Week will provide an overview of common social media sites and practices while discussing the ethical dilemmas involved in the use of this new technology.
"The Department of Communication is honored and proud to have Dr. Peggy Bowers represent ULM for PULV 2013 International Week," said Dr. Carl Thameling, program coordinator for the communication department. "Dr. Bowers's presentation will offer a substantive framework from which her audience can choose when considering the ethical behaviors of the media industry."
PULV is located in Paris, France, and its programs focus on international business, engineering, and new media. International Week is sponsored by PULV's International Program in order to gather scholars from all over the world and to promote the exchange of ideas over international boundaries.
