20 Days to a Healthier You: 5K Training

MONROE, LA. (KNOE 8 News) - Here on Good Morning ArkLaMiss, we're offering helpful tips to you during our 20 Days to a Healthier, Wealthier, Wiser You segment in the month of February.

The challenge that KNOE 8 News's Nick Lawton is undertaking will be to run a 5K race this month.

He's adopted a running schedule week-to-week that you can also take advantage of if you'd like to train yourself!

SCHEDULE:

-Monday: Run 10 minutes, walk 1 min – repeat 2 times

-Tuesday: Rest or cross-train

-Wednesday: Run 12 minutes, walk 1 min – repeat 2 times

-Thursday: Rest

-Friday: Run 13 minutes, walk 1 min – repeat 2 times

-Saturday: Rest or cross-train

-Sunday: Rest

Tiger Rock Martial Arts also has their own tips with exercises to get your heart rate up for your own running training.

Their exercise only takes 40 seconds. You do a set of three punches, three pushups, three situps and three front kicks (knee lifting and foot kicking straight forward). All of these exercises should be done in rapid succession for 40 seconds.
