OAK GROVE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The West Carroll Sheriff's Office is attempting to retrieve stolen goods from a home invasion from a Mississippi pawn shop, but the store refuses.

Cecilia Thrush of Oak Grove says when she got home one day in November, "The kitchen cabinets were all open, the doors were open, the TV was gone, the rug was turned up."

Just before Thrush walked in to find her home this way, she stopped a man pulling out of her driveway to ask what he was doing.

"I said can I help you, and he said well I heard you had a car for sell and I came over to check on it," says Thrush, "and being that I'm a widow and we have been selling things, I didn't think anything of it."

It turns out, she was talking to the intruder.

West Carroll Parish investigators tracked down and arrested the man, who then confessed to stealing items very valuable to Thrush.

"Very special items of course, my husband's wedding band, my wedding band," says Thrush.

He not only confessed but told police exactly where to find everything, the Walnut Street Pawn Shop in Greenville, Mississippi.

Even with proof the items were stolen, the shop refused to hand them over. Deputies then asked for the help of local police in Greenville, who passed them along from agency to agency, with no actual help on the case.

Now, the sheriff is having to ask for help from an even higher authority.

"The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and/or the District Attorney in that district in Greenville," says Sheriff Jerry Philley.

"I'm so afraid that he's going to take those bracelets and melt them down, or sell them to someone else," says Thrush.

With the suspect behind bars, all Thrush can do is wait for the pawn shop to hand over her most treasured possessions, while the West Carroll Sheriff's Office searches for a helping hand across the state line.
