WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Kindergartners at a West Monroe Elementary School proved they aren't too young to revel in Mardi Gras celebrations.

These kids at Riser Elementary rolled a mini carnival parade through the school hallways. The students dressed up in traditional carnival colors of purple, green and gold while riding tricycles and bikes that were transformed into homemade floats. They threw candy and beads to their fellow students along the parade route. The kids were joined by the king and queen of the Krewe of Janus, who are getting ready for Saturday's twin cities parade.

"This is our annual event we have each year, we start talking about Louisiana, and we just go into Mardi Gras," said Annie Booker, Riser Elementary School Teacher. "We had a blast, we're looking forward to next year, and the king and queen came out to be with us and we just had a good time," she added. School leaders say the parade is meant to teach the children about Louisiana culture."
