BAKER, La. (KNOE 8 News & AP) - State police have arrested a former veteran Baker police officer accused of soliciting money from students for two programs he coordinated for the police department.
Forty-seven-year-old Jason Doyle, a former Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer and Police Cadet Coordinator, is accused of asking DARE students to help pay for a graduation program from 2009 to 2012. The arrest warrant says Doyle also solicited money for the Cadet Program.
Police Chief Mike Knaps said the DARE program is funded by the police department through a federal grant and there is no need for children or their families to pay for any costs.
Troopers booked Doyle Wednesday into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of theft and malfeasance.
