MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Monroe man is behind bars accused of pulling the trigger in a drive-by shooting.
Police say 21-year-old Deon Thompson is responsible for seriously injuring a man on Christmas Eve.
Investigators say Thompson confessed to shooting at a crowd of people with a .380 caliber handgun. Officers say he then tossed it into the Ouachita River, hoping to get rid of the evidence.
Police say Thompson is a convicted felon and should not have been in possession of a weapon.
The 21-year-old is being held inside the OCC without bond.
He's charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Assault by Drive By Shooting, Criminal Conspiracy, Possession of a Firearm/Felon, and Obstruction of Justice.
