LITTLE ROCK, Ar., (KNOE 8 News) - A spokesman says Gov. Mike Beebe has agreed to speak with members of the state Senate next week about a plan to issue millions of dollars in state-backed bonds and other incentives to land a $1.1 billion steel mill in northeast Arkansas.

Beebe spokesman Matt DeCample said Wednesday the governor has agreed to appear with other state officials to answer questions about the mill that Big River Steel, LLC says it wants to build in Osceola. Senate President Pro Tem Michael Lamoureux said he wanted the Senate to hold a "committee of the whole" meeting on Monday so lawmakers could ask questions about the project.

Bringing the project to Osceola would require the Legislature to approve $125 million in bond financing to be repaid over 20 years.
