RAYVILLE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Rayville's Director of Public Works has been suspended without pay in the wake of his indictment this week on 24 counts of malfeasance in office.
Because Brown is a Department Head, any further action will require a vote of the Rayville Board of Aldermen.
ORIGINAL STORY:
RAYVILLE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Rayville public works director Lorenzo Brown was indicted Wednesday for 24 counts of malfeasance in office. Brown was then arrested Thursday and released on a 120-thousand dollar bond, after a grand jury indictment against him.
They say he was breaking the law by using prison inmate trustees, at times, as maintenance workers, at private homes and businesses two dozen times. They include a motel, nightclub, Mexican restaurant and car dealership, among others.
The indictment document indicates he did this over the course of a year during 2009 and 2010. This issue is striking a chord because police say he used public dollars and resources to help and fund the work. "Town tax dollars should be paid to the town, it doesn't matter who works for the town, but the town tax dollars should go to the town," said Brown's neighbor Roosevelt James.
We reached out to brown to tell his side of the story and he said no comment, at least for now. Brown's arraignment is set for April 3rd
