Police: ULM sexual assault suspect strikes again

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Monroe police are looking into a sexual assault case on the 5000 Block of Blanks Street. Investigators say Saturday, a woman was forced inside her home and sexually assaulted. It all happened around 1 in the afternoon.

"We should be more informed in this neighborhood about things going down," resident Troy Morris said.

Morris is hoping the criminals will ease the pain they're causing in his neighborhood with the help of more police activity.

"That's what makes people take the law into their own hands, when they can't get no help from the law," Morris said.

Police say after the crime, the person behind the assault jumped into the victim's vehicle. Officers recovered the car shortly after. But, they're still searching for the suspect. Police believe that same person is connected to another case, about a mile and a half away, that happened more than a week ago.

Officers are saying a ULM student was forced down Northeast Drive, away from campus, and that's where they say the sexual assault took place.

Campus police along with city cops are keeping a close eye on suspicious people on the grounds of the university. They're looking for a black man about 5'10" with a thin build, in his 20's. Police say he has a tattoo on his neck and hand.

"When you get more police enforcement out, there were good police who had conversations with me and helped me change my life," Morris said.

Morris has a criminal rap sheet of his own. But he hopes current criminals will follow suit in following the law.

The person police are looking for is considered armed and dangerous.
