New track at Vicksburg High is stalled

Posted: Updated:

VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - A proposal to renovate the running track at Vicksburg High School has been postponed indefinitely. The lowest bid was $419,375.

Vicksburg-Warren Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Swinford says that bid and the others for the repairs were higher than she and board members had expected.

Swinford says the district needs to see what its construction fund balance is before it spends that kind of money. The track has numerous potholes and cracks. It cannot be used for district, regional or state competitions.

Board President Bryan Pratt says the track has drainage issues that would require a major overhaul. He says the drainage is what has caused the current damage.
