Monroe continues search for animal control help

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (AP) - In it's ongoing effort to solve an animal control problem in this area, the city's  legal department is reviewing information provided by the police department about proposed animal welfare officer positions.

The review is currently centering on the job description the police submitted.

The hiring process is expected to begin with an internal posting for ten days to allow city employees first shot at trying for the job.

At present, the city of Monroe doesn't have an animal control officer, which has caused some problems in recent  days. The animal control officers are commissioned with the sheriff's office but are employed by the parish. The sheriff's animal control officers currently handle all animal calls within the city.

Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo says the city wants to hire two animal welfare officers.
