Plan to expand charter schools in Miss. moves forward

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, Ms., (KNOE 8 News) - House members in Jackson have approved a bill to expand charter schools in the state.

It took until nearly 1am Thursday morning, but house members eventually voted to pass bill 369.

Supporters of the bill say the long debate was worth it--they believe the measure will set off a revolution in Mississippi's education system.

The Mississippi Senate passed a broader bill last week and now the two groups must agree on one version to be sent to Governor Phil Bryant.

The Governor has already indicated he wants to sign an expanded charter law.
