WASHINGTON, D.C.., (KNOE 8 News) - CBS News is reporting that the fight over gun control is moving from the streets to the halls of Congress.
Senator Dianne Feinstein of California is introducing a bill banning assault weapons and high capacity ammunition clips, saying "You need to do something about the guns."
Connecticut senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy are co-sponsoring the bill. They say the shooting at sandy hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut proves there's a need for an assault weapons ban. "Newtown fundamentally changed things, and the NRA just does not get this."
But the NRA says law abiding citizens need the same technology the criminals have. Wayne Lapierre, NRA Executive Vice President argues, "That means we believe in the right to defend ourselves and our families with semi-automatic firearms technology."
