MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Monroe Police officers were conducting a safety checkpoint in the 4200 block of Elm Street in Monroe overnight when the incident occurred.
Officers say that Keithen D. Johnson could not produce a driver's license and sped away from the checkpoint.
The police say officers pursued Johnson throughout the East side of Monroe. They say he drove recklessly, disregarding several red lights and stop signs and driving through business parking lots.
Then, according to the report, Johnson stopped his 2004 Chevrolet in the 1800 block of Filhoil Street and attempted to flee on foot. Officers quickly caught up with Johnson, but then they say he resisted arrest. Officers then used a Taser to subdue him.
Johnson was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center for Aggravated Obstruction of a Highway of Commerce, No Proof of Insurance, No Driver's License, Resisting Arrest, and Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution.
