GSU Inauguration Watch Party

Posted: Updated:

GRAMBLING, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Monday was inauguration day for President Obama, and like many people across the country, students at Grambling State University gathered to watch the president, and their university band.

Grambling student, Dillondia Barnes says "today will be a day to remember."

Many students like Barnes say it's important to watch and be informed about what is going on in the country.

Grambling student, Owen Reedy says "his inaugural speech gave a good insight into his platform and I would say fiscal year but for his term as president, so he gave a good insight on what he was planning."

One thing President Obama talked about in his speech, civil rights, and how the country still needs to move forward.

Students say they agree.

Barnes says, "we do have a long way to go but as long as we come together and stick together as one, then we will be able to get through."

Grambling student, Dexter Tardy, says "we have come a long way, we have come far, and I just hope and pray for progression everyday."

Students says it's exciting to watch their university be a part of history.

Tardy says, "it's incredible to be able to say that I come from a small school in Louisiana, to go play for the president as he's becoming President Elect Obama to President Obama."

Reedy says, "to turn on the TV and to see people that you know, and see around campus and converse with on a daily basis to actually be at something that's so important to the world."

Students say they are excited to watch history in the making, together.
