FARMERVILLE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Union Parish celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with it's 1st Annual March and Ceremony.

Hundreds joined at the Parish Courthouse to march together to the recreation center. There, the town's mayor and local reverends spoke about the late civil rights leader.

Freddie Nute has recited the "I have a Dream" speech for 7 years, but at Saturday's ceremony, he was able to perform in front of his largest audience.

"It's very exciting," says Nute, "It's really a great chance to get to do something like this for the whole parish."

Those that gathered in Farmerville are joining to forget about the little things that divide us, and remember the great things the unite us.

Many in attendance called the event a wonderful and long overdue celebration, that has allowed the entire community to pay tribute to the late Martin Luther King, Jr. while recommitting themselves to living out his dream.
