VICKSBURG, Miss. (KNOE 8 News & AP) - A Vicksburg Intermediate School student has been suspended for bringing a hollowed-out hand grenade to school.
Vicksburg Warren School District Superintendent Elizabeth Swinford reports that the unidentified 11-year old was suspended for 10 days and will appear before the district's Disciplinary Review Committee.
Swinford says the student did not make threatening statements and was showing the grenade to friends when a teacher at the school was alerted to it.
Swinford says the committee will make a recommendation that the child be allowed to return to school after a 10-day period, spend half a semester at Grove Street School, finish the year at Grove Street or be expelled.
Swinford says that had the grenade been active, the child would have been immediately expelled.
