Arkansas state judges and prosecutors' salaries under discussion

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ar., (KNOE 8 News) - As the Arkansas Legislators move toward the end of the first week of this session, a committee is to consider whether to increase the salaries for the state's judges and prosecutors while keeping the pay flat for legislators and constitutional officers.

The Joint Budget Committee will be looking at the pay increases in the proposed General Appropriation Act, which sets the funding level for the executive, legislative and judicial branches of state government. The legislation is the first budget bill that must be passed during the session.

The $39 million bill would keep pay flat for representatives, senators and the state's seven constitutional officers. It would increase salaries for prosecutors and judges - including the state's Supreme Court justices and Appeals Court judges - by about 2 percent.
