Ice accumulations being reported in parts of Mississippi

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, Ms., (KNOE 8 News) - Authorities say ice is accumulating on some roads and bridges in several counties in the Mississippi Delta because of freezing rain and sleet.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation says the ice has begun accumulating in Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Quitman, Tallahatchie and Yalobusha counties.

Chad Entremont, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson, says an ice storm warning in effect Monday for parts of the Mississippi Delta could be extended into Tuesday.

Entremont says there could be light, freezing rain or drizzle in the area overnight with the possibility of more freezing rain or sleet on Tuesday.

Entremont also says there's a chance of light snow in central Mississippi on Thursday.
