White House responds to Louisiana secession petition

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A petition requesting Louisiana to secede from the nation, has received feedback from the White House.

According to the White House petitions web site, if a petition receives 25,000 signatures in 30 days, the White House is required to respond. Louisiana's received 39-thousand signatures.

The official White House response from Office of Public Engagement Director Jon Carson reads:

"Free and open debate is what makes this country work, and many people around the world risk their lives every day for the liberties we often take for granted. But as much as we value a healthy debate, we don't let that debate tear us apart no one disputes that our country faces big challenges, we will need to work together and hear from one another in order to find the best way to move forward."
