HART group rescues dogs from flood

Posted: Updated:

TALLULAH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - While nobody was hurt in the latest round of heavy rainfall and flooding, some animals haven't been so lucky.

Five dogs in Tallulah are said to have drowned in the flood because they were chained outside. The HART (Helping Animals Reach Tomorrow) group has been rescuing dogs from flooded backyards all day.

While out rescuing the animals, Cappy Jeffers from HART says she found many dogs chained outside standing in water. She says kennels and dog houses were completely submerged under water.

Friday night, the group put together a safe area for the rescued dogs. With limited supplies, they are using picnic tables inside the kennels for dogs to stand on, in case the water rises again.

The group will be available over the weekend for rescues, just call the Madison Parish Sheriff's Office at (318)574-1831.

The HART group is also in need of various supplies and donations. To find out how you can help, visit the HART Facebook page.
