BASTROP, La., (KNOE 8 News) - A Bastrop man has died after a car crash. State troopers report he was  not wearing a seat belt at the time.

Tuesday night, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 139 south of Bastrop, which claimed the life of a Bastrop man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1982 Toyota Tercel, driven by 39-year-old Sheldon Lindsay of Bastrop, was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 139 when it traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

Lindsay was unrestrained and suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. Lindsay was transported to a hospital in Morehouse Parish where he died.

A toxicology sample was obtained from the driver and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Making poor decisions in a vehicle, such as driving while impaired, driving while distracted or reckless driving, leads to serious injuries and deaths across the state each year. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Troopers remind motorists to never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol, never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver, never allow an impaired person to get behind the wheel, and always wear a seatbelt.
