RUSTON, La., (KNOE 8 News) – Dr. Jeffery Hankins, an associate professor of history at Louisiana Tech University, one of the few members of the British Scholar Society, has been named to its international advisory board.
The British Scholar Society is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to Britain's interactions in the world from the seventeenth century to the present, to concentrate British history during the 1600s and 1700s.
"Most scholars write about Great Britain during the 19th century and 20th century," Hankins said. "I write about after the American colonies split from the British Empire, when the empire really got going in settling other places such as India and China."
Bryan Glass, general editor of The British Scholar Society, named Hankins to the international advisory board of the society.
"The society did not have a board that had written about the British Empire from the 1600s to the 1700s," Hankins said. "I accepted and now they have somebody who will look over papers during the time period."
As a member of the advisory board, Dr. Haskins' responsibilities will include evaluation of manuscripts on 17th-century topics submitted for publication by the society.
"We look for factual errors," Hankins said. "We like to see historians making a new argument that has not been written before– a good conclusion to a unique argument."
Hankins said this is a growing organization and continues to add more internationals scholars every year.
"It is the most international society on British history," he said. "A lot of countries from Asia, America, Africa and, of course, Europe help with the society. It's a great honor to do this. I'm honored they would trust me enough to make decisions on this level."
