Jonesboro child shot UPDATE

JONESBORO, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Jackson Parish Sheriff's Department has completed its investigation into the suspicious death of an eight-year-old Jackson Parish child.

Following the investigation into the child's death, the Sheriff's Department has concluded, "from all the evidence and information received" that this fatal shooting was an accident.

After an aggressive investigation looking into this we have concluded from all the evidence and information received that this fatal shooting was accidental.

The report continued, "We will not pursue any criminal charges into this matter and we hope that the family can move forward and properly grieve the loss of their child".

 

ORIGINAL STORY:

JONESBORO, La. (KNOE 8 News) - An 8-year-old is dead and now, investigators are working to figure out the cause. It all happened in Jackson Parish on the 7600 block of Quitman Highway.

Sheriff Andy Brown said the child died of a gun shot wound to the head around noon Monday. Brown said the call came in as a reported suicide.

Deputies have not determined the nature of death. Brown said this case is being referred to as a suspicious death involving a gun.

Deputies are waiting on an autopsy.
