WASHINGTON, D.C. (KNOE 8 News) – U.S. Representative Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, was sworn into the 113th Congress by House Speaker John Boehner. The Speaker conducted the ceremonial swearing-in for Alexander following the oath of office on the floor of the House of Representatives.
Alexander said, "It is an honor and a privilege to serve another term under the guidance of Speaker Boehner. This is a new year, a new congress, and with it brings an opportunity for a fresh start. Through the Speaker's leadership, the House will continue to address the nation's fiscal challenges, help Americans get back to work and slash reckless spending, so that the American Dream is preserved for this generation and for generations to come.
"I am grateful to continue my service on the House Appropriations Committee where my colleagues and I will push forward sound measures aimed at cutting spending and shaping responsible federal budgets. With a talented team in place, which embodies leadership, expertise and understanding, I am confident we can lessen the damage caused by historic deficits and provide for a stable financial future.
"Additionally, I am proud to serve my country, my state and my district in a new capacity as Chairmen of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee. I have the utmost faith that each of the incoming subcommittee Chairs will act with great resolve in the days ahead to help restrain Washington's purse strings."
