West Monroe mayor appoints interim chief

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris has named an interim police chief for the police department.

Major Jerry Stansbury will serve an interim chief as soon Chief Christopher Elg leaves the department on January 4, 2013.

Elg has accepted a position with a police unit in South Florida. He's scheduled to start in February. He's been the leader of the department for 9 years.

Soon-to-be Interim Chief Stansbury joined West Monroe P. D. in 1981. He's currently serving as major of the patrol division. He holds a B. A degree in law enforcement and a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. Stansbury is an alumnus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
