Safety Cab organizers say effort paid off

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Low arrest numbers this New Year's Eve could be a result of people using the safety cab program.

The program is part of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Department's nation-wide crackdown to stop impaired driving. The department teamed up with a local cab company, Twin City Yellow Cab, to offer free rides home.

And, the company says phones rang off the hook all night. They were able to safely drive more than 50 people to their homes. They say those that called the cabs, "saved lives."
