THIBODAUX, La. (KNOE 8 News & AP) - A hearing to determine the competency of a man accused of beheading his son has been delayed for a third time.

The Daily Comet reports 31-year-old Jeremiah Wright, of Thibodaux, must be deemed mentally competent before he can stand trial on charges he decapitated 7-year-old Jori Lirette last year.

Prosecutors say the hearing, originally scheduled for Thursday, was moved to Jan. 29. Wright's defense attorneys asked for the extension. Wright remains in the Lafourche Parish jail on a first-degree murder charge in lieu of a $5 million bond.
