No fiscal cliff deal Sunday

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Discussion to avoid the so-called "fiscal cliff" continues on Capitol Hill.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said both sides still have time to reach an agreement. More discussion is scheduled to begin Monday at 11:00 A.M.

Republican Senator David Vitter released a statement about President Obama and Senator Reid's goals when it comes to the fiscal cliff.

"There's certainly no Senate deal yet. And the biggest reason is that every Reid-Obama proposal this weekend raises taxes only to usher in more spending - they don't cut deficit and debt by one penny," Vitter said.

Congressman Rodney Alexander believes a deal will be reached before the clock strikes midnight bringing in the New Year.
