MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Louisiana State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting in Monroe.
Troopers say it all happened early Saturday morning around 2:00 a.m. on South 9th Street in Monroe.
State police say when officers arrived, they noticed a man on the ground suffering from a stab wound. Police say the man attempted to intervene in an aggravated assault.
According to state police, they also saw 25-year-old Detandal Devon Pickens holding two knives to a woman's neck. Police then ordered Pickens to drop the weapons, troopers said. The suspect refused, so officers then tased the man, but that did not end Pickens' assault, according to troopers. State police said Monroe officers then shot Pickens and he was pronounced dead by the Ouachita Parish Coroner's Office.
Police are not releasing the two victims names, but say neither suffered life-threatening injuries and both are in stable condition.
The shooting remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police, who will then turn over their findings to the District Attorney's office.
