Independence Bowl Fans

SHREVEPORT, La. (KNOE 8 News) - There are some people out here who aren't fans of ULM or Ohio, but fans of the Independence Bowl.

Flipping hamburgers, digging though a bag full of buns, and laughing is what fire fighters like Steve Gaskin, with the Bossier City Fire Department do every year for the Independence Bowl.

Gaskin says, "I'm still going to come out I'm going to support whatever team is playing, and I'll go from there it's all about comradery."

Gaskin is one of many fire fighters who feel it's important to support their local bowl.

Fire Fighter Brian Thorton says, "every year, every year we come to the Independence Bowl, we look at our calendars and make sure we're off work and if we're not we'll pay people to work for us whatever it takes."

Thorton says they have traditions they follow each year.

He says, "we bring out this trailer we're standing upon right now, and then we invite others to come our whole work department, and it's a good time."

But how do they choose who to cheer for?

Fire Fighter Chris Dison says, "we pick a team that is playing you know this year we have to local ULM team so that's who we'll be cheering for."

The Bossier City Fire Fighters say they are already planning their trip for next year.
