OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Ouachita Parish School Board does have a new reapportionment plan in place with a two to five vote.
Ouachita Parish Superintendent Bob Webber says the new plan isn't a big change from the old one.
After discussion Thursday night from both concerned parents and school board members, there is a new reapportionment plan in place for the Ouachita parish school board.
Webber says, "they may disagree but they stay very professional and I think we'll move forward without any hard feelings and continue to have a successful system."
With a vote of five to two the board adopted the 5 A plan, but what does that mean for your district?
Webber says, "Mr. Robinson his district would move further west to the Lincoln Parish line above I-20 and then on the east side Ms. Spence district will now include frenchmens bend, and I think that was a good situation for her because she is from that area."
One parent says she is happy with the decision.
Parent Kelly Craighead says, "5A in my opinion made the most sense it involved the least amount of change our area out in the West Ouachita Area out with Woodlawn and Pine Crest its going to continue to grow and splitting it up in 52 like they intended to do I don't think would have been in anyone's best benefit."
One concern parents had, they wouldn't have a say on who was running their district.
The board says these new plans won't take place until after the election.
Webber says, "the election will be in October of 2014, and in January of 2015 is when this would start."
He wants to remind everyone this change does not affect the students.
Webber says, "if you're zoned to one school now you will continued to be zoned to that school."
Some parents say they feel at easy knowing they will be able to vote on the school board member that will be over their district before the changes go into effect in 2015.
