Damage after possible tornado

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KNOE 8 News/ KALB News) - In Rapides Parish, an apparent tornado swirled through an Alexandria neighborhood, just south of our area. Police say at least one person was hurt. More than a dozen businesses and homes are damaged. Many of them are now roofless. Trees are also down and debris is scattered throughout the neighborhood. One witness says the severe weather was an early wake-up call on Christmas morning.

"Well me and my son was camped out in the living room you know laying there spending Christmas Eve together," Mary Ann Walker said. "And we woke up to this loud noise sounded like a train coming through the house, and we got the train track over there so, but it sounded so loud and so close."

The Alexandria woman says she never wants to see what she saw again. Utility crews are working around the clock to restore power.
