West Monroe police chief offered Bismarck, ND job

WEST MONROE, LA. (KNOE 8 News) - According to our CBS affiliate in Bismarck, ND, KXNews, the Bismarck City Commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to offer the job of  Bismarck Police Chief to current West Monroe Police Chief, Christopher Elg.

KXNews quotes Bismarck City Commissioner, Parrell Grossman, saying: "After what I consider a very exhaustive and thorough review of the candidates and the needs of our community, I'm going to recommend to this City Commission that we first offer the position to Christopher Elg...."

West Monroe Mayor, Dave Norris, released this statement to us earlier today saying: "Nine years ago when I hired Chief Chris Elg following a national search, I knew that eventually he had ambitions to move into progressively higher levels of law enforcement. Several months ago he and I discussed the future of the department and it became apparent from that conversation that he would be looking for opportunities to advance in the following months. I was not surprised by the reports that he is applying for such jobs and that his efforts are being well received. I wish he well in this process."

Elg is also one of three finalist for the chief of police job in South Bend, Indiana.

Elg has been the Chief of Police in West Monroe since 2004.

According to KXNews, Elg now has until midnight on Thursday, December 20th to accept the Bismarck position.
