MONROE, WEST MONROE, RUSTON, LA. (KNOE 8 News) - In response to the Newtown, CT shootings and threats made to some schools, officers with the Monroe, West Monroe and Ruston Police Departments confirmed to KNOE 8 News that they increased their police patrols around schools this morning.

The only threat made was to West Monroe High School Sunday night. It was made by a 15-year-old student there who is now in custody and charged with terrorizing.

West Monroe PD told KNOE 8 News that even though the threat had been under control, they still increased their patrols this morning to show more visibility around all campuses. They said they treat every threat seriously.

Likewise, the Monroe and Ruston police departments said the increased patrols were to help give students and teachers a feeling of security going to school this morning.

No threats have been made to any schools in Monroe or Ruston at this time.
