Firefighters: Dog house may be to blame for Ruston house fire

Posted: Updated:

RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Fire crews are working to determine the cause of a Ruston house fire.

It all happened shortly after 3:30 Wednesday afternoon on the 300 block of Rough Edge Road. Firefighters say the home is a total loss. Investigators say there were people inside when the fire sparked, but everyone managed to escape injury. Crews say all of the homeowners pets though weren't so fortunate. Early investigation show the spark started in the backyard.

"We don't have the exact conclusion, but we're pointing towards the exterior of the home on the back porch area. They had issues with a dog house they had set up with a light to keep the dog warm at night," Eric Brazzel with Ruston Fire said.

Firefighters say no one was injured. Crews will continue monitoring the house for any signs of hot spots inside.
