MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Monroe's Biedenharn Museum and Gardens will offer a full slate of holiday programs this Christmas season, highlighted by three Christmas Evenings at the Biedenharn, December 13-15. See below for details.
Christmas Evenings at the Biedenharn will be Thursday through Saturday, December 13-15 from 5:00 - 8:00 the Biedenharn celebrates Christmas with extended evening hours featuring lights in the garden, decorations by the Monroe Garden Study League, live entertainment, wassail and, of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus. Admission is $5.00 per person.
Each night will feature music by a variety of local artists performing on the Fountain Room.
Cinema Christmas Classics is this year's theme for the decorations in the historic Biedenharn Home. Members of the Monroe Garden Study League are celebrating 10 holiday films such as It's a Wonderful Life, The Polar Express and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The indoor decorations will be augmented by a marvelous display of lights within the garden.
An annual highlight is the Poinsettia tree in the conservatory. Sixty-four plants are used in the "pot tree" an iron structure which creates a Christmas tree of Poinsettias. Additional, Christmas plantings are on view throughout the garden.
While much of the Christmas Evenings activity occurs on the north end of the 2000 block of Riverside Drive, there is plenty of holiday action in the Coke Museum. Soda Jerks in the museum's replica soda fountain tell the story of Joe Biedenharn and the first bottling of Coca-Cola.
The Museum Store features a wide range of items for Christmas shopping. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available to hear children's Christmas present requests and for photos. Santa loves spending three evenings each year at the Biedenharn where he can often be seen drinking a Coke beside the museum's Model-T Delivery truck.
