Fire damages Monroe home, family safe

MONROE, LA. (KNOE 8 News) - A fire significantly damaged one home in the 3100 block of River Oaks Dr. in the Maria Place subdivision in Monroe.

City of Monroe firefighters told KNOE 8 News that a fire broke out in the garage around 8:30 a.m. and burned the entire right side of the home.

Some flames even reached the roof.

One family was living inside the home and even had relatives coming in from Denmark for the holiday season.

They all made it out of the home safely and no Monroe firefighters were harmed either.

Monroe firefighters still haven't determined the cause of the fire.

"The occupants were not injured. We have no firefighter injuries at this time. We've got the fire under control," Monroe Chief Fire Investigator, David Hill, said. "We've just got a vehicle that's leaking fuel and re igniting. We're trying to get it out of the garage so we can extinguish it."

The house has suffered significant fire damage but a dollar figure for the damage hasn't been determined yet.
