Ruston noted as a good place to retire

HOUSTON, Tx., (KNOE 8 News) - "Where to Retire" magazine says Ruston is a great place to retire.

Calling Ruston "a top retirement destination", the magazine plans to profile the city in its January/February issue. The Jan/Feb issue will be on sale on the 18th of this month.

"Where to Retire" editor Mary Lu Abbott says Ruston possesses qualities important to today's retirees. "In the heart of northern Louisiana, Ruston is an undiscovered haven for retirement, a friendly small town with a strong college vibe and a low cost of living. In a region of piney woods and lakes, it's a great spot for outdoor sports enthusiasts and has a lively arts community," Abbott said.

Each year, 700,000 Americans relocate to new towns to retire. Generally, relocating retirees are healthier, better educated and more affluent than those who choose to not relocate. They bring significant economic benefits to their new states and hometowns. Nationally, two dozen states and hundreds of towns seek to attract retirees as a source of economic development.
