MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Betty Blakes wins the District 3 City Council seat by 199 votes over Juanita Woods in the runoff election Saturday.
Previous story:
The District 3 City Council runoff election is between Betty Blakes and Juanita woods, and both ladies are making their final campaign pushes around town.
Betty Blakes was the front-runner in the general election in November, but she is not relying on that during the runoff. Her headquarters is preparing for a party tonight, while in another room volunteers make hundreds of phone calls to get people to vote.
"We've got the poll watchers out there, we got phone calls in there, we got canvases on the street, we got the 'BB Express' going," says Blakes.
Juanita Woods is taking a slightly different approach. She is riding up and down the streets of Monroe meeting the people of District 3.
"We're just getting people excited and getting them out to vote," says Woods, "we've got the music, we've got some food, we've got a lot of momentum...we're just having a good time."
We will have the results of the District 3 City Council runoff and other races online and on KNOE 8 News Saturday at 10pm.
