Gifts collected for Angel Tree children

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Local businesses team up to collect gifts for children on the Salvation Army's Angel Tree list.

"We were kind of skeptical coming into this thing Monday morning," says BJ Bell, radio personality at 100.1, "We didn't know if a week was going to be long enough to get a hundred kids adopted."

With our nation's current economy and talk of the "fiscal cliff," BJ Bell was afraid some children wouldn't be getting any gifts this season.

"We were thinking, with how bad the economy is right now, that it would be hard for people to give to other kids when they have kids of their own," says Bell.

Bell was looking to find sponsors for 100 children in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.

"Whatever was on the Angels' Christmas list, the community goes out and gets what they can," Bell says.

He was surprised with the outpour of support over the last week.

"We've been here for five days, and it's really been overwhelming, the support we've been getting from our community."

Bell thought this would be a much longer process, but he says by Thursday, all 100 angels received sponsors, and all will get just what they asked for this Christmas.
