BATON ROUGE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - A Winnsboro woman has been charged with fraud in a La. Dept. of Children and Family Services investigation.
Officials say an investigation by the Department's Services' Fraud and Recovery Unit has led to two women pleading guilty to receiving nearly $30,000 in ineligible Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.
Officials say Katrina Howard of Winnsboro illegally obtained benefits from April 2008 to June 2012 in the amount of $27,400 after failing to report her husband as a household member. Howard was sentenced to five years hard labor, which was suspended, placed on supervised probation and ordered to make restitution.
Jennifer Welch of Covington was charged with illegally obtaining benefits in the amount of $2,000. Welch received these benefits from April 2011 to September 2011 after concealing her earned income. Welch received a suspended sentence, placed on probation for two years and pay restitution.
