Public forum discusses re-zoning in Monroe

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Monroe's zoning laws were discussed at a public forum Monday evening at City Hall.

Maps were set up to help people better understand re-zoning in their city. Changes to the over 50 year old zoning codes could have a major effect on everyone in the city. From bar hours to where you can build a playground, the details were outlined at the public meeting.

"These laws tell people what their neighbor can do with their properly, and what they can do with their property," says Stephen Villavaso, hired to help with re-zoning, "So it's really important for people in a city that's changing, and a city that's looking for what we can do in the future and guide the right decisions for it's citizens."

The next zoning meeting is set for sometime in January.
