December 8th runoff and tax issues listing

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Voters head back to the polls on Saturday, December 8th, to decide on some runoff spots as well as a number of tax issues.

In Monroe, voters will be choosing a District 3 City Council member, with Betty Blakes facing Juanita Woods.

Newellton, in Tensas Parish, has a mayor decision to be made between candidates Carroll Fuller and Timothy Turner. In Union Parish, Farmerville's District B Alderman's seat is on the ballot, with Lavelle Maine and Wille Payne squaring off.

Here's a complete list of other races we'll be watching, Parish by Parish.

Catahoula Parish: PW Sheriff's Sales and Use tax (1%) Details: Sales and use tax to be levied in perpetuity with the proceeds to be used to pay costs and expenses of operating and supporting the Catahoula Parish Sheriff's Office.

Concordia Parish has three races in addition to the Alderman race between Elijah "Stepper" Banks and "Chris" Chatman. In the School Board, Dist. 4, Place B Jeffery Goodman and Angela Hayes are the candidates.

Also in Concordia , the Parish-Wide Police Jury 1 mill tax, 1 mill tax
to be levied in perpetuity for paying costs of maintenance, operation and upkeep of the Black River Lake and Burshy Bayou Flood Control Structures.

And in Concordia, there is the Monterey FDP #1, $50 Parcel Fee, which is a 10 year fee for Monterey Fire Protection District No. 1 for acquiring, constructing, maintaining and operating fire protection facilities for the district including the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes and all purposes incidental thereto. will be voted on.

In East Carroll Parish there are four Parish-Wide tax issues to be decided, including a 911 Phone System 2 mill tax for 10 years, which would authorize a 10 year, 2 mills tax for the purpose of improving, maintaining and/or operating an enhanced 911 telephone system (including the payment of necessary dispatch personnel in the parish)

In East Carroll there are also three Police Jury propositions;

Prop 1, which is a 3 mill, 3 year tax for the purpose of supporting the Parish's general fund.

Prop 2, which is a 1 mill, 3 year tax which would levy a 3 year, 1 mill tax, for the purpose of operating and maintaining the Byerley Tourism Center House.

and Prop 3, which would levy a 3 year, 2 mills tax for the purpose of operating and maintaining the Louisiana State Cotton Museum.

In Jackson Parish the Chatham Police Chief's race features David McManus Jr., opposing "Mike" Wilson.

There are also two tax issues in Jonesboro by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen: Prop #1, which is a 5 mill for 5 years tax for funding the fire department, and Prop#2 which is a 5 mills for 5 years tax for maintaining and improving streets.

In LaSalle Parish, there's a 10 year 1% Sales and Usage tax for constructing, improving, maintaining, surfacing and/or resurfacing public roads and bridges within the Parish including incidental drainage and acquiring, maintaining and operating equipment and materials for said purposes.

Morehouse Parish has a School Board Dist. A $2,665,000, 20 year issue to vote on,

Winn Parish will be voting on a Mayor/Council 10 year, 1 1/2% Sales and Use tax, which would give the authority to levy a 1.5% sales tax renewal for 10 years to provide funds for the sewer treatment, for solid waste landfill, capital improvements including streets, drainage and sanitation, and to provide funds "for any other lawful purpose for the city".

The following Parishes in our area have no races or issues to be decided in the December 8th voting: Caldwell, Lincoln, and Madison

    MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Monroe police are looking for two suspects that robbed a Kangaroo convenient store. Police say two black males entered the store, located at 4320 Desaird Street, around 3:15 Friday morning. They say the suspects robbed the store at gun point and police were able to able to get a photo of one suspect. That suspect is described as a younger black male over six feet and it appears he is wearing a Neville sweatshirt. He is considered armed and dangerous.
